WELP! THAT DIDN'T WORK OUT
I was going to surprise you guys with a story this week. Not a full novel, just a bite-size something that you could read in three or four minutes and —
What? You don't believe me? Look, this is it right here. I printed it out two days ago for editing.
Problem is, my proofreader bailed on me and I've been staring at the document for seven days straight and am afraid I've missed a typo.
What's it about? Well, first of all, it was hard as heck to rewrite. You see, this story started out as a long short story (not quite a novella) and there was so much that I knew about the characters and their history that it felt impossible for me to get over all that knowledge and zero in on only what I needed to tell the story.
Why not just come up with a whole new story, you say.
Because I have 20+ stories languishing on my iPad that I am determined to make complete and available.
On the surface, it's a ghost story. Underneath, it's about the relationship between a brother and sister. The sister is somewhat of a troublemaker and she's recently moved in with her older brother. He's different. Travis isn't the cool firecracker he used to be and it annoys her.
On a day she's left home alone, she wanders up to the attic because of a story the neighbor told her about a boy's spirit who was trapped in a shoebox.
The rest of the story you'll just have to read when I post:)
And there will be more free stories posted here. This series is called Little Black Box. All four stories in this series have to do with little black boxes.
The post dates will be random but I'm shooting for once a week. After all four stories are posted, another series will start.
